What a thing to be with young kids around the clock for the last 45 days. It’s hard and it’s also the best.

I used to wonder what my kids were like day after day in daycare. What they did, what they said, how they evolved. Seeing this in real time is unlike anything I’ve experienced with them.

Just living day to day life side by side. Walking and talking about the most mundane things in great detail. Seeing their complete wonder and excitement over the most basic things we take for granted and don’t even notice.

When we slow down we get to see what childhood is really all about. It’s really wonderful if we take the time to notice ✨

Kids belong in nature. That’s what I love the most about being here for an extended period of time. Seeing them free and unconfined. Shirtless, barefoot, following bugs and lizards around.

What are some things you do at home to connect your kids to the outdoors and to nature? I need inspo for our return home 😅

I don’t celebrate International Women’s Day be

I don’t celebrate International Women’s Day because over the years it’s taken on various meanings, and associated to ideas and people, that I believe take the power away from women rather than highlighting their power.

So today, not on that day, I take the opportunity to highlight the power and beauty

in womanhood
in motherhood
in pregnancy and birth

In the bodies that are gifted by G-d to create life and sustain life.

In the innate woman’s wisdom. The innate woman’s intuition. The innate woman’s ability to love, nurture, foster, and grow what and who is all around her.

We don’t need to join movements that seek to equal us to our male counterparts. We work together in balance *because* we are different. Because the power we have as women is unique, and should be cherished and celebrated for what it is in its most raw, essential, and biological essence 🌼

There’s nothing like seeing the world through their eyes 🤩

We keep being told “you’re so brave!” for traveling with kids. For taking them on adventures. For trekking. Packing. Moving around.

It’s not easy but it’s the most amazing thing to see them live their daily lives around us 24/7. Why is it so normal to us to live separate from them most of the time??

Thinking only easy things are worth it is a trap. We grow as a family this way. We get to know each other in a way that the grind routine doesn’t allow for.

What’s brave is to be willing to go there, to drop what we’re told is normal, and instead, to do what we feel is natural ❤️

You don’t have to do it the way we did. If this speaks to you find how you can incorporate this into your own life and align with the meaning of what family life truly means to you 🙏🏻

Bfly Amusement Centre 🦋

@bflyqc has two locations in Montreal - Brossard Quartier Dix30 and Laval. It’s an activity that can take as little as 1 hour and up to 2-3h if the kids get into playing!

- There’s a butterfly aviary where the kids get up close and personal with beautiful big butterflies
- A 3 level jungle gym with a small area for babies on the bottom
- A treetop ropes course and wall climbing for older kids
- A mirror maze
- Tables to sit and eat

All indoors it’s the perfect activity for a winter day! 🦋

Why and how I’m teaching my own kids to swim 🐟

Over the last 3 years I’ve spent about $2000 on swimming lessons. From the baby group classes, to individual lessons at all ages, the classes were fun and taught them to blow bubbles and feel comfortable in the water, but they did not learn any life-saving skills.

As the summer season was approaching in a few months I was about to get into another round of lessons, when I heard of @swimtosafetybyselena.

A program that empowers and teaches parents to teach their own kids to swim. Completely online and at your own pace, there is a series of videos to watch instructing parents on how to communicate with their kids during this process, and how to teach a variety of skills in the water. There is support from Selena and from a community of other parents to troubleshoot any obstacle that may arise. Parents have lifetime access to this content and can reuse it for multiple kids.

We are often around unsafe pools in the summer so the survival skill of swimming to safety is extremely important to me. Additionally, as someone who prioritizes experiencing life to the fullest, I want my kids to do the same. That includes the fun and freedom of swimming in the summer and while traveling!

I can’t wait to see where this program takes us, I’ll be sharing our progress on my stories 🐠

SCIENCE CENTER - Mini Mondo + Dino Expo

While I’m away, I wanted to share some of Montreal’s fun indoor activities for kids.

We spent about 2 hours at the Montreal Science Center. The Mini Mondo is a play area for kids 0-7 years old. There are lots of opportunities for imaginative play and a play supermarket with real food and scents.

The Dino Expo is more for kids 3ish + depending on whether they are afraid or not. Gabriel who loves dinosaurs was too scared to go in, David who has no interest in dinosaurs loved it and redid the tour 4 times!

There’s an area to sit and eat, a café, outdoor parking, and a self coat check.

Not too long ago I believed that the only thing to do when my son was sick was to suppress symptoms by alternating Tylenol and Advil every 3 hours 💊. Not. Todayyy.

Fever shouldn’t always be reduced and there are a few reasons why. My favorite is that fever serves a purpose. It’s there to fight whatever 🦠 is invading the body and giving meds like Tylenol/advil on repeat suppresses the body’s natural response to fight back.

As long as baby/child is drinking and moving about or talking/playing, these are signs that you can wait and let the body do its thing! Trust you mom gut to tell you how you’re child is doing and let that be the judge of what to do next - how he/she is presenting, not the number on the thermometer.

This hack will prevent kids from touching the screen, pressing buttons and changing apps while watching a show or movie.

Step by step instructions because I’m not about to make you rewatch this reel 17 times to try to see the steps you missed 😅

➡️ Settings, Accessibility, Guided Access, turn on Guided Access, set a passcode, turn on Accessibility Shortcut, set Display Auto-Lock to Never

➡️ Go to any streaming app like Netflix, YouTube etc.

➡️ Triple click the home button (for iPads and older iPhones) or the Lock Screen side button (for newer iPhones). Enter passcode. Click on Options. Turn off all features. * You will only have to do this step the first time you set it up. From here on out, all you need to do to turn on this feature is triple-click the home/side button and click Start.

Doing all these steps turns your phone into a screen that does not sleep or lock, has no touch function, no access to turning volume up or down, and no ability to click the home button or switch apps.

There is nothing more annoying than a kid asking you 100x to fix the screen because they’re suddenly in Calculator, or a toddler turning the volume up to max - like can you please not thank you🙏🏻

Most importantly, it prevents them from roaming through your device onto other shows, apps, internet etc which is paramount for their online safety.

You can also rest assured that they won’t make any calls, send 2?&.8;7;$2 style messages to your group chats, or make purchases for questionable things.

➡️ To stop this function and regain access to your phone simple triple-click the home/side button once more, enter passcode, and click End.

There’s only a few days left, and for those in middle of Jewish holidays the only showing that might work for you is Sunday at 11 if you’re invited or a superhero in the kitchen 😅

A few things to know:
• bring snacks and drinks (the lines are incredibly long and not worth it)
• wear warm clothing, I even brought a little blanket
• show lasts 2 hours
• a quick stop at the dollar store for a crown and something that flashes shiny lights can prevent a meltdown when you don’t want to buy your kid a $45 flashing snowflake wand 😬

Sunday at the zoo 🦁

About 1 hour away from Montreal 📍you have a wonderful half day outing for the fall. @parcsafari is open until October 30th on weekends and Thanksgiving day October 10.

At this time of year you have access to the drive through safari where you can touch and feed the animals from the comfort of your car, the zoo, a petting farm, some rides, and a few shops/food. You can even sleep there overnight if you’re that much of an anima lover 😅 the little cabins are new and so cute.

Sundays are interesting for me because I’m alone with the kids so I either tough out everyone’s boredom at home or take the kids on adventures!
